This is the stuff we attempted to drink... the Guana wasn't bad - until Dave saw the rust eating away the bottom rim of the can. The other stuff was just horrible - tasted like dishwater and a mouthful of aluminum. We fed it to the monkey. He will be missed.

Here we seee the entire setup - the 1902A monitor to the left, the C64 at the bottom next to the classic Atari joystick. The 5 1/4" disks are above that - and to the right are the 1541 andBlue Chip disk drives. The 1541 didn't work so well.... and neither did the Blue Chip drive, but it was all worth draggin all of this vintage "crap" out for the day. We managed to get a few games loaded up as you can hear in the show... but all that playing got us a little hungry...

Ahhh, the mighty Commodore 64. Pork and I have wasted away many days of our youth playing games on one of these (not this one, Pork got this at a yard sale - the whole setup for like $5 or $10, something like that) - and we absolutely loved it! Not only that, but our minds are stuffed with great memories from those experiences. Those of you out there that did the same know what I mean. Good times. Good times.

It's finally here - the Pork n' Beans Commodore 64 Tribute Show!!
In this episode we pay respect to our favorite plastic package of circuits and switches. We’ve wasted… I mean spent a LOT of our childhood playing games on this little masterpiece and loved every minute of it!
We brought in our good friend Los of “Los and Smoke” podcast and “Philly Phools” podcast fame to take a walk down memory lane and share with you what we loved about the Commodore 64. The show ended up being so damn long that we split it into two parts.

I was checking out the used music scene at this cool little cd store when I came across these little morsels. Obviously I had to pick'em up and find out for myself what the perfect blend of sweet, mint and meat would taste like. Aw man, what were they thinking?!! they tasted like I had a mouth full of smoky bacon - with a hint of mint. For one I am amazed that somebody actually pitched this at a meeting somewhere and everyone loved the idea, but I am also perplexed at how they managed to capture the EXACT flavor of bacon in these things. Bit into one and the smokiness really rushes out - it's too wierd. I saw this place very close to where I live - I thought it was hilarious. Gonna have to try it sometime. I wonder what comes with the Triple Delight. Maybe some ho mein. Ha Ha Ha *cough* ha. sigh. That was awful.

Mmmmm, Ham jerky!! This was by far the best of the lot - we used it's soft texture and sweet flavor to rid our mouths of that awful Antelope and Elk. They were the worst without question. They added too much pepper, to mask the rotten flavor of the meat ( especially the Antelope.. Ewwwwk!). And for some reason the Antelope had a rotten fishy-ness to it. ???

Yo everyone!! We're back with show # 5 and another Crusty Cuisine segment, where we examine the strange things that people eat around the world. Today we taste different kinds of game jerky. Among the flavors are: HAM (that's right, Los!), Wild Boar, Elk, Pheasant, Antelope, and Ostrich. Also available, but Dave couldn't get them, were Rattlesnake, Cajon Alligator, and some sort of Turtle. According to the labels above, most of these are mixed with Beef and the flavor was evident to us. I guess they do that to stretch the meat out to make more sticks, just like you add bread crumbs to hamburger meat. I dunno! lol

Back to the arcade project... Cheezer got the control panel put together - it's a little purple compared to the graphic. I think Cheezer used his built-in printer to do it. That thing was from an old Commodore Amiga. Oh well... and the two ball-topped joysticks seen here are going to be replaced this week with the new black sport variety. Got'em gtom xgaming.com - not a bad deal, we'll see.

Believe it or not, the sausage wasn't as "threatening" as we thougt it would be. Mostly sweet, so it might actually be *gulp* good with waffles and syrup. Maybe that's what we should have done. Threw the sausage, waffles, and syrup into a blender and made a complete breakfast shake!! Oh, and some orange juice to top it off. OK, so we failed here. We promise we'll cook up something terrifying for the next edition of Crusty Cuisine.

OK, here are a few pics from our Crusty Cuisine segment on show #4. At first glance the meat was kind of gray-ish with the visible blueberries looking like clumps of mold in bleu cheese. Ughfff! Now I know why they were in the "Clearance section" of the meat cooler.

I cannot get enough of this site (www.engrish.com)!!! These four gems were from the "Buildings" section. Firstly, look at that "key" - it's got balls!! And it's all flapping in the breeze and wiggling all up in your face!!! lol What are they selling there?? Well we know what they are selling next to the key pic, cowpies!! Must be a delicacy there.... and NO we're NOT getting some for our Crusty Cuisine segment on the show!!! I'd much rather get some "Fresh Fanny" and go play "pleasure time" in the two pics at the bottom. Man, I'm sitting here at my desk at work and laughing out loud - people must think I'm nuts!!

Here's what I put together for the marquee - (modified version of the great Knievel Kustoms MAME marquee design) - I think it looks pretty good. I'll have to see how much it will be to print on clear mylar.

Speaking of pushing a mouse, I've been trying to think of the graphical scheme for this arcade.... Found some nice space art on the web, and thank you Knievel for the cool neon!! (http://www.knievelkustoms.com/). So this is where I am at the moment. Two joysticks, three buttons each, a spot at the top for player 1 and 2 start buttons, and spot at the bottom for a nifty trackball later. I realize now that I will need more buttons - one more for each player and two buttons to represent player one and two coin input. Now to tink of a name for this thing..........

PRIMED - PAINTED!! Well, one coat of black. I'll probably finish it off with atleast two coats, maybe three. You can see my awful wood putty skills there on the front corner! That's why I sit in a cubicle and push a mouse for a living!! Ha Ha Ha... awww I'm pathetic. *cough*

Ahem. Excuse the mess. Using the existing spaghetti mess wires on the unserside of the control panel, I was able to wire up the I-PAC interface board (lower-right corner) in 20 minutes. I just noticed how close I mounted that thing to the edge. Oops.

The control panel is in decent shape, but the acrylic is shot. Cigarette burns, soda stains, and something that resembles a slimy slug remain from this cabinet's glory days in the smoky arcade. That's alright, because new glory days still lie ahead!! I know I will have to expand the control panel in the future to have a trackball, a spinner, and atleast six buttons per player (for some of the classic fighting games!)

Well, this is some form of keyboard drawer - and functional too. I plan to hide the brackets inside the drawer and cover the surface with felt or something like that. YOu can see in the left view that I destroyed part of the front panel above the coin door. The glue used at the factory seeped into the particleboard and when I puled the panel off the front it cracked the top part of the lower front panel. Shitzu!! Gotta repair that one because everyone will see it!!!

Got the new marquee light strip from Home Depot in place and some form of monitor shelf built. (my carpentry skills are almost null, but it seems to do the job. It's a 19 in monitor from cragslist for $20. Not a bad deal.

Here's the old screen bezel (and my son! We'll have to interview him on the show sometime, he's hilarious!). It is in fairly good condition - and sold with the guts on ebay.
